All individuals (PNWU students, faculty, staff as well as investigators who are not affiliated with PNWU) conducting human subject research, whether on the PNWU campus or elsewhere, must have training in responsible conduct of research and protection of human subjects.
PNWU’s preferred educational training in human subject research protection is provided by the CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) Program (citiprogram.org) for social & behavioral and biomedical research. CITI education certificates are accepted at most institutions across the country and are easily transferable to these other institutions. The formal CITI educational training in human subject research protection certifications are valid for four years from date of certification. If outside the four-year time frame, re-training must be obtained before an IRB application is submitted. Human subject training certifications must remain current throughout the period of the study. In rare instances other human subject protections training may be accepted with approval by the Institutional Official.
