STUDENT AFFAIRS

PNWU Student Affairs functions as the hub for comprehensive student support. They provide a warm, welcoming, supportive environment for students while promoting their professional and personal development and growth. Student Affairs is committed to helping students find the answers they need and advocating for them in the process. 

A variety of resources and services are available to students through Student Affairs. Student Affairs oversees academic support, mental health resources, student led campus activities, the Student Government Association, and student organizations. 

We strive to create an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming campus for all by creating a sense of belonging and reducing obstacles so students can thrive in their own, unique ways. We encourage engagement and unity across all programs.

The office is located in Butler-Haney Hall, room 317, and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Excused Absences 

Students need to follow the specific excused absence procedure as detailed in their academic program’s student handbook.

Religious Holidays: Because of the extraordinary variety of religious affiliations of the University student body and staff, the Academic Calendar makes no provisions for religious holidays. However, it is University policy to respect the faith and religious obligations of the individual. Students with classes or examinations that conflict with their religious observances are expected to submit their request well in advance (three weeks ahead of the expected absence) so that mutually agreeable alternatives may be worked out. 

Requesting an Emergent Absence
Situations arise that may cause hardship or prevent students from planning ahead. If this is the case, please contact Student Affairs as soon as possible via email at studentaffairs@pnwu.edu or phone at 509.249.7724.  

Examples of emergent excused absences include, but are not limited to: 

  • Personal illness 
  • Serious and/or sudden illness, or death of a family member 

If for any reason students are concerned about the implications their absence(s) might have on their coursework, they should speak with Student Affairs as soon as possible to discuss options and to learn of resources that may be available. 

Jury Duty 

A student selected for jury duty should contact Student Affairs. A letter will be provided for the student to submit to the judge. There is no guarantee that the student will be excused from jury duty. If the student is required to report for jury duty, follow the academic programs procedures for excused absences.
