CAMPUS SECURITY

PNWU Security staff provide a safe and secure learning environment through education and enforcement procedures and are available to assist with;  

  • Car lock outs, a waiver must be signed 
  • Jump start of dead batteries 
  • Flat tires 
  • Taking reports on building issues, leaks, damage, etc. 
  • After hours escort to vehicles 
  • Triage phone calls for off campus students with urgent concerns, life threatening emergencies should call 911 

Animals on Campus

Other than service animals with service and vaccination tags, all other animals inside campus buildings must have documentation approved and submitted to Human Resources prior to building entry.

Campus community members are encouraged to report to Campus Security any animals that misbehave or handlers who mistreat their animals.

Campus Closure

During a campus closure, only essential employees are allowed on campus to ensure campus safety prior to others returning to campus.

Emergency Notification System

At matriculation students provide an emergency notification number for voice and text messages, and an email address for email messages. This contact information needs to be updated to ensure emergency notifications are received.

Contact Information and Emergency Contact 

It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the University knows how to contact the student in case of emergency regardless of class year. Therefore, students should update their address and phone number on Self-Service. An emergency contact is provided and updated in your Profile on Self-Service. 

Fire Drill

In the case of a fire drill or fire emergency the gathering location for Butler-Haney Hall (BHH) and Watson Hall (WAT) is the sports field west of BHH. The gathering location for MultiCare Learning Center (MLC), Cadwell Student Center (CSC) and University Conference Center (UCC) is the northwest parking lot. The gathering location for Iron Horse Lodge (IHL) is the north parking lot. 

Reporting Criminal Offenses and Suspicious Activity 

PNWU employees and students shall accurately and promptly report crimes and suspicious activity by calling 911 in the case of an emergency and Campus Security at 509.823.3346.

Parking

PNWU shall provide parking as a courtesy for employees, students, and visitors on campus. General parking spaces are open for all vehicles with any type of valid PNWU parking permit. Parking permits must be displayed and if you often switch vehicles a second permit may be issued. Overnight parking on the PNWU campus is not authorized unless preapproved by the Security department. 

A vehicle with a state handicap permit or license plate may park anywhere on campus except for fire lanes.  

PNWU shall not be responsible for any theft, vandalism, or other damage occurring while a vehicle is parked on campus.

Vehicle Accidents

    • An campus security officer will complete a written report for all reported traffic accidents, which can then be submitted to the individual’s insurance company.  
    • If the accident involves an injury or is deemed a reportable accident per state, county, or city law, the appropriate law enforcement agency will be contacted.  

Fire Lane

There is absolutely no parking in a fire lane for any reason.  

Loading Zones

    • There is no parking allowed in a Loading Zone unless the vehicle is loading or unloading equipment or passengers.  
    • Even if the vehicle is loading or unloading equipment or passengers, the vehicle cannot be in the Loading Zone for more than 20 minutes.  
    • If a vehicle is parked in or blocking a Loading Zone and the vehicle is not loading or unloading equipment or passengers, the vehicle may be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.  

Parking Permits

    • General parking on the PNWU campus is free to all students.  
    • All students are required to register their vehicle and receive a parking tag for the vehicle. Students must keep their vehicle information up to date with the Security department. 
    • In the event that something happens to your vehicle while it is on campus, the decal provides a method of contacting you quickly.  
    • To receive a parking permit, submit a parking permit form and Security will contact you.  

Staff Parking

    • Staff parking places are designated by a posted sign or a label of “Staff-Faculty Parking” painted on the ground.  
    • After 5:00 P.M., staff parking spaces become general parking spaces.  

Towing a Vehicle

Contact the campus security manager or the on-duty campus safety officer.  

Violators

Employees violating the parking policy will be referred to the appropriate director and human resources. Students violating the parking policy will be referred to Student Affairs to determine the appropriate action. 

Lost and Found

Lost and found is located in Butler-Haney Hall (BHH) near the north entry door. Higher value items will be stored in the Campus Security Manager’s office, BHH 140. Contact the on-duty campus safety officer to check for items after regular business hours.  

Identification Badge

For all students and employees of PNWU, identification badges are required to be worn or carried at all times while on campus or on clinical experiences. The badge allows access to university buildings at all hours and must be presented when requested. The badge is the property of PNWU and must be returned to Campus Security upon withdrawal, dismissal, or other separation from the University or upon request. The badge is non-transferable and does not authorize the wearer to obligate the University in any way. Altering or intentionally damaging the badge, using another person’s badge, or allowing the badge to be used by another person may result in disciplinary action and confiscation of the badge.  

If lost or stolen notify security immediately so that access can be deactivated.

Official Photo

The official photo of all students is taken at matriculation. If a student wants to update this photo, it must be done by the University approved photographer with the student wearing their academic program specified apparel. Retakes for first-year students must be completed within the first two weeks of their first term. Continuing students will have the opportunity for retakes prior to starting clinical experiences. All retakes will be at the student’s expense and must be coordinated with Student Affairs.
