What is the value of a student being in the MAMS Program?
Since the inception of the MAMS Program in 2012, over 90% of MAMS students have graduated and been accepted into medical or graduate health professional school. MAMS students take almost half their coursework alongside first-year medical and pharmacy students. Current/Former MAMS students also present over 40% of the peer-reviewed abstracts at PNWU Annual Research Symposiums and participate in community outreach activities reaching over 4,000 K-12 students, annually. The last 5 PNWU-COM SGA Presidents have been former MAMS students and 3 of the last 5 PNWU-COM Student Doctors of the Year have been former MAMS students. MAMS students, therefore, have the opportunity for personal/professional growth and development, increased career or job placement, as well as enhanced earnings.
How many MAMS students are admitted to health/medical professional schools yearly?
Of a typical class of 30 students, 28 MAMS students apply to health professional schools, while 2 choose other professions. Of the 28 that apply for admission to professional schools, 25-26 historically are admitted within a year of graduation.
What do I need to achieve for a guaranteed interview at PNWU-COM?
MAMS students that score at the D.O. class average in SciFOM (usually around 80% or above) and have an MCAT of 496 or above, are guaranteed interviews at PNWU-COM provided all standard application and admission requirements are completed. PNWU-COM interviews may also be granted on a case-by-case basis for those MAMS students scoring below the SciFOM D.O. class average or with an MCAT below 496, provided the student is doing well in all other MAMS coursework.
What MCAT score do I need to achieve admittance into PNWU-COM?
The PNWU-COM admissions committee desires that MAMS students achieve a composite MCAT score of 496 or higher. The path to a career as a physician is filled with numerous standardized tests established by national groups (not PNWU). Doing well on the MCAT demonstrates that an applicant is more likely to succeed on standardized national board exams.
Does the MAMS Program include preparation for the MCAT?
Yes, the MAMS Program curriculum includes enrollment in a Princeton Review Course to facilitate preparation for the MCAT. The Princeton Review Course typically begins in August and concludes in early January with the MCAT taken by January 31.
Can a good SciFOM score overcome a less than stellar grade point average?
Yes, the PNWU-COM Admissions Committee considers an upward GPA trend that indicates improvement in academic skills.
When will I be interviewed?
You will be interviewed by the PNWU program(s) applied for based on the interview schedule(s) of those given program(s) with appropriate consideration for when your application is strongest/most competitive. Medical school applicants are typically interviewed in late November, mid March, or early May based, in part, on the strength of SciFOM and MCAT scores as well as MAMS course grades.
I do not have a physician letter of recommendation. Will I meet physicians during the MAMS program that could write me a letter of recommendation?
Yes, MAMS students will be exposed to physicians through the Health Professions I/II and Medical Skills I/II courses.
Will I get the chance to be involved in PNWU extracurricular activities?
Yes, interested MAMS students can participate in clubs, organizations, grand round seminars, student government, and interprofessional education experiences. Participation level and timing will be guided by the MAMS Program Director to ensure that student academic and overall success is optimized.
Can I be involved in community service work or volunteer opportunities?

How should I interact with faculty and staff?
Faculty should be addressed as Doctor or Professor. When contacting faculty and staff by email, please use your PNWU email account. When on Zoom, the phone, or other remote platforms, remember to mute, dress professionally, and use a neutral background. In all interactions, please be professional, pleasant, concise, do not be overly familiar, nor confrontational. All personnel should be treated as you would want to be treated. You have a year to get to know individuals. You are responsible for the impression created. It is highly suggested that you put your best foot forward.
Can I apply to other health professional or medical schools besides PNWU?
Yes, students are encouraged to apply to all health professional or medical schools that they are interested in. MAMS students receive exposure to various career opportunities including dentistry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and pharmacy. Information on Guaranteed Interview Agreements with osteopathic medicine, dental, physical therapy, and occupational therapy programs can be obtained by speaking with the MAMS Program Director or MAMS Program Manager. Our goal is to facilitate admittance to the health professional school of your choice.
