FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE ER(R)
Friday Night at the ER is an engaging simulation game designed to challenge teams to manage a busy hospital during a simulated 24-hour period. Teams of four work together to deliver high-quality service at a low cost while navigating spikes in demand, limited resources, time pressure, unexpected events, and performance accountability.
The game encourages participants to move from silo thinking to systems thinking, helping them see the big picture and understand the interdependencies within an organization. By simulating real-world challenges, participants learn valuable lessons about teamwork, communication, and strategic decision-making that can be applied to any industry.
Benefit for Students:
This session is strategically designed to enrich the student experience by applying the core Interprofessional Education Collaborative’s (IPEC) competencies. These include communication, teams & teamwork, roles & responsibilities, and values & ethics. Through this immersive activity, we aim to not only deepen students’ understanding of applied systems-thinking, but also foster a cross-functional collaborative mindset that aligns with the core principles of interprofessional practice.
Benefit for Faculty:
After the game-play, participate in our specialized debriefing session specifically designed to equip faculty facilitators with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively debrief health professions students in interprofessional education (IPE) activities.
