PNWU Students Host Week of Belonging

This March, PNWU students will host Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Week.

Featuring powerful conversations, hands-on workshops, cultural celebrations, and more, the efforts aim to foster a deeper understanding and connection to the diverse perspectives within our community.

Why Attend?

Week of Belonging is all about embracing diversity, fostering inclusion, and building a sense of belonging at PNWU.

Whether you’re a student, faculty member, or staff, the event offers a chance to be part of a transformative series of events that promote open dialogue, collaboration, and a stronger community.

What’s Happening?

  • Monday, 3/24: DEI Panel Kickoff – Hear from diverse professionals on their personal and professional experiences with DEI.
  • Tuesday, 3/25: Ableism Talk – Learn from Dr. Fleckenstein as she addresses how ableism affects our society and how we can challenge it.
  • Wednesday, 3/26: Deaf Awareness Discussion – Discover the importance of deaf awareness and accessibility in our community.
  • Thursday, 3/27: Hands-On Workshop with Assistive Devices & Adaptive Equipment – Learn about tools for inclusivity and engage with OT and DPT faculty/students. In addition, a Holi Celebration in the evening.
  • Friday, 3/28: Cultural & Creative Expression – From basket weaving workshops to a celebration of Japanese heritage, we’ll highlight the importance of creative and cultural expression in our community.

The week will be capped with an Open Mic & Spoken Word Event, allowing participants to share personal stories, identity, and creative expression in a safe, supportive space.

How You Can Get Involved:

  • Attend these engaging events, panel discussions, and workshops to expand your understanding of DEIB.
  • Participate in the Holi Celebration and express yourself through art, storytelling, and color throwing.
  • Get hands-on experience with adaptive tools and hear personal stories from speakers who bring real-world perspectives to DEI topics.
