PNWU Military Medicine Students Bring Warrior Run Back to PNWU Campus in Support of America’s Veterans

On Saturday, September 25, at 10 a.m. PNWU’s Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (SAMOPS) club will host the PNWU Warrior Run, live from the back lawn of the University’s Yakima campus. The family-friendly, all-abilities event encourages everyone to get outside, run through some mud and overcome a collection of fun obstacles, all in support of Team RWB, an organization which strives to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.

“The Warrior Run offers a great way for our community to get outside, get dirty, have fun, and foster the sense of camaraderie that we have missed during COVID-19, all in support of a great cause,” explained Larissa Fischer, OMS II, ENS, MC, USNR, who serves as the SAMOPS clubs’ president. “By doing events like this, we can share a little bit about our experience as military medical students in a fun, engaging way.”

Event obstacles have been carefully adjusted to limit contact due to COVID-19, which has led to some inspiring creativity from event organizers like Student Doctor Fischer. “We are getting creative,” she explained with a laugh. “People can expect to get muddy, be challenged with some exercises, and navigate some obstacles. I hope that each person that chooses to participate feels a sense of accomplishment for running the race and tackling the obstacles and they feel good about supporting our club and Team RWB.”

All participants are asked to follow CDC guidance for social distancing and masking indoors, and to not attend if they have any COVID-19 signs or symptoms, or have been in contact with a COVID-19-positive person, in the past two weeks.
