Multnomah Falls

Clinical Rotation – Oregon

Site locations for the Oregon region are: Reedsport, Roseburg, and Klamath Falls

Additional option is Greater Oregon – Special note regarding “Greater Oregon” site selection – This site is designed solely for students from a city in Oregon (i.e., former residents of Oregon), who already have current and active medical contacts for preceptors and rotations in the area they are choosing. To qualify for placement at this site, four weeks prior to site selection rank submissions, students MUST apply for prescreening approval by submitting a list of preceptors, contacts, relationship to these preceptors, and site locations with their rank list to their RSA. The preapproval review process of this list may include follow-up conversations with the Oregon Regional team. This process in no way guarantees placement in the Greater Oregon region, however is required to be completed prior to completing the site selection JotForm and prior to consideration for placement at this site. Unlike other 3rd-year PNWU rotation sites, at this site students who are selected for Greater Oregon are to create their own OMS3 schedules with support from the Oregon Regional Site Administrator (RSA).  If a student selects this region, they are solely responsible for setting up all of their rotations at this site. The RSA may be able to assist; however, will not be able to set up rotations in this region. Please note this difference in site rotation set-up if considering Greater Oregon for site selection.

  1. Example of a successful candidate for “Greater Oregon”
    1. a. You are a student who is from Eugene, OR, and have a family member working for one of the hospitals in the area, or you have worked for a hospital in the area, and have contacts willing to provide most core rotation opportunities.

Please note the importance of this prescreening process. Even if you have relationships with practicing physicians in Oregon, PNWU must ensure that the individual or the health system in which they operate accepts PNWU students. Reach out to the Oregon RSA before contacting potential preceptors or health systems directly.

Preceptor/Rotation Information

With the exception of Greater Oregon, the region will do their best to schedule core rotations within 50 miles one way from where didactics are held or from the satellite locations (a location for clinical rotations associated with a regional site). In the event that a core rotation occurs more than 50 miles from their assigned site, students may be eligible for a housing allowance and/or mileage stipend provided by PNWU.

Out-of-Region Expectations:
It is expected that a student may be required to rotate outside of their region for any unavailable core rotations. Please see student handbook for policies and procedures related to core rotations conducted out of region.

Additional Information

Region strengths:
There are great hands-on training opportunities in Reedsport, Roseburg, and Klamath Falls with providers who really enjoy educating students. Though there are resident physicians at some sites, many rotations allow students to work directly with attending physicians.

Why might a student choose this region over another?
Reedsport, Roseburg, and Klamath Falls provide the most rotations in a concentrated area.  They are great locations for students who would like to be housed in one city for most of their rotations with limited travel.

Students assigned to “Greater Oregon” must set up their own rotations through professional contacts.
