Satisfactory Academic Progress

Federal law requires that all students receiving financial assistance from Title IV and Title VII funds maintain satisfactory academic progress. Each academic program specifies the academic standing requirements in the student catalog and academic program specific student handbook.

A student failing to meet one or more of the academic standing requirements prior to a progress check will be placed on academic warning. While on academic warning, the student may receive financial aid. At a progress check, the student must be in good standing or may appeal to the Student Progress Committee for an academic probation. A student who is not making academic progress is not eligible for federal financial aid.

The student will be notified and provided with information regarding their status.

Appeals

If a student has mitigating circumstances that directly contributed to the poor academic performance, they should submit a written justification to the appropriate Student Progress Committee.

The written justification addresses two major issues:

1. Causative factors
2. Remedies and solutions

Re-Establish Eligibility

There are two ways for a student to re-establish eligibility; approved remediation or repeating the academic year.
