This policy speaks directly to financial aid recipients who withdraw from the university, are dismissed, or otherwise fail to complete any credit in any given semester. Federal aid will be prorated and returned to the federal aid program(s). Scholarships and third-party sources will not be returned unless specifically required by the source.
- A student who formally withdraws: the returned amount of government aid will be in proportion to the number of calendar days remaining in the award period.
- A student who attends 60 percent of the award period before formally withdrawing: will not be required to repay financial aid programs.
- A student who stops attending (unofficial withdrawal): Attendance at all lectures, labs, discussion groups, and other assigned functions is required and monitored. Any student who quits attending prior to the end of the award period will have aid prorated to the last day of attendance as documented by instructors.
Return of Title IV Funds
The federal return of Title IV funds will be calculated and funds returned within 30 days. This action may immediately create an amount due on the student’s university account. The returned aid will be in proportion to university charges and the number of calendar days remaining in the award period. Financial aid funds that had applied toward university charges will be repaid in the following order:
- Federal Unsubsidized Stafford/Ford Loan
- Federal Subsidized Stafford/Ford Loan
- Federal Graduate PLUS Loan for Students
Refund of Tuition
Any refund of tuition will be applied to the Return of Title IV requirement. Financial aid recipients may owe the university for charges originally paid with financial aid. Students who attend and formally withdraw on or after 60 percent of the term are not required to repay Title IV aid. However, all aid recipients will be held to the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards for future financial aid eligibility.
No part of the tuition fee will be refunded to a student who withdraws for any reason after the third week from the first day of the academic schedule for first year, second year, third year, or fourth year. A request for a tuition fee refund requires written notification to the associate dean, and must be received before the close of business during the week in which the refund is requested. The request for a tuition fee refund requires prior written notification of withdrawal from the college.
The tuition fee refund shall be prorated as follows:
- 75 percent during the first week
- 50 percent during the second week
- 25 percent during the third week
