School of Occupational Therapy Mission
Consistent with the mission of Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU), the developing PNWU School of Occupational Therapy is committed to delivering graduate programs of distinction and preparing occupational therapists as leaders, scholars, and change agents who deliver occupation-based services that promote the health and wellbeing of rural and medically underserved communities throughout the Northwest and beyond.
Program Accreditation Information
Effective August 18th, 2022, the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
ACOTE is located at 7501 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 510E, Bethesda, MD 20814. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652-6611, their email is accred@aota.org and the web address is www.acoteonline.org.
The developing MSOT program must be granted Candidacy Status, have a pre-accreditation review, complete an on-site evaluation, and be granted Accreditation Status before their graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of the NBCOT exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure. At this time there is no guarantee that the developing School of Occupational Therapy at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences will be granted candidacy status.
