Demographic Information
Puyallup is in Pierce County and is part of the greater Seattle-Tacoma region. There is a great diversity of cultures, educational institutions, industries, and geography.
Fitness/recreation areas available in the region:
There are unlimited gyms, trails, and sport teams to participate in. From hiking to biking, to Frisbee golf and knitting groups and everything in between, you can find your fit!
Housing:
There are numerous apartment complexes in the region, depending on where you want to live. Current students, family, and friends are all good resources.
Length of time region has been training with PNWU students:
We have long-established relationships – the Puyallup region was established in 2011.
Preceptor/Rotation Information
The region will do their best to schedule core rotations within 50 miles one way from the local didactic site (East Pierce Family Medicine). If a core rotation occurs more than 50 miles from this central location, students may be eligible for a housing allowance and/or mileage stipend provided by PNWU.

- Many electives also provide inpatient experience

There are many options but availability varies over time. Please contact the Regional Site Administrator to discuss available options.

Is there integration of other schools with PNWU students?
There are opportunities for integration with other schools during certain rotations.
Residencies available in the region that PNWU students are involved in (didactics, rotations, etc.):
PNWU students rotate in clinics and hospitals where they may work alongside residents in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and other residencies within the region.
Opportunities to practice OMM:
Yes. Most providers are open to it even if they do not practice it.
Out-of-Region Expectations:
It is expected that a student may be required to rotate outside of their region for any unavailable core rotations. Please see student handbook for policies and procedures related to core rotations conducted out of region.
Didactics Information
Centralized Didactics are held every Wednesday afternoon from 2 pm to 4 pm. Students will join the online PNWU Centralized Didactics for the Clinical Didactics (CLIN 704) course.
Region-led didactics, which are part of the Clinical Didactics (CLIN 704) course, are held every Wednesday as scheduled by the regional leadership and include various topics/activities.
Other learning opportunities in addition to PNWU didactics include:
Hospital rounds, CME lectures, suture clinics when offered, participation in residencies lectures and procedure workshops.
Core (3rd year) rotations available within driving distance (50 miles) of the didactics site?
Most rotations are available in the region, but some are a little more than 50 miles from core site.
