Core Competencies
The NIHC has adopted the 2023 Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice from the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC), which guides curriculum development for all NIHC activities. The four competency domains encompass the topics of Values & Ethics, Roles & Responsibilities, Communication, and Teams & Teamwork.
Students completing the NIHC IPE curriculum gain the knowledge and skills needed to better achieve the Quintuple Aim of 1) improving the patient experience, 2) improving the health of populations, 3) reducing the cost of health care, 4) improving clinician well-being, and 5) advancing health equity.
Core Curriculum
Our didactic core curriculum aligns directly with the four IPEC core competency domains. All students will participate in our foundational lesson, which includes the completion of an asynchronous online module and a baseline learner readiness survey. The didactic curriculum has been developed to ensure that associated learning objectives within each of the four IPEC competency domains are achieved through interprofessional synchronous virtual sessions.
Experiential IPE Opportunities
In addition to our core didactic curriculum, students will have the opportunity to work with their program directors or faculty to select from our menu of experiential & service-learning opportunities. The NIHC has built partnerships with community organizations, such as the Yakima School District Health & Wellness Education Center, Healthy Eats Nutrition Services, and Triumph Treatment Services, to provide students the opportunity to practice collaboratively in a clinical and community service-learning environment.
