Favorite occupations: Spending time with family, friends, and fur babies, traveling, gardening, kayaking, hiking, fishing, yoga, brewing and judging beer.

Dr. Flick received her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of South Alabama in 2007 and Doctor of Philosophy in Health Science at Nova Southeastern University with an emphasis in Global Health, August 2022. Her qualitative dissertation focused on the lived experiences of survivor advocates and survivor leaders in the anti-trafficking movement. She recently authored book chapters on population health and trauma-informed care, health promotion for occupational therapist assistants, and emotional regulation.

She has been a clinician since 2008 working across the lifespan in community mental health, pediatrics, inpatient and outpatient rehab, and acute care, including burn unit, trauma center, and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). She volunteered as an OT in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Dr. Flick is certified as an AOTA Fieldwork Educator, Level I Provider Sequential-Oral-Sensory (SOS) Feeding Approach, Nurturing Parenting Program trainer, DIRFloortime® provider, Therapeutic Listening provider, facilitator for Community Action Poverty Simulations, and Mental Health First Aid USA.

Jami Flick joined the PNWU School of OT as the Director of Clinical Education in September 2021. Prior academic positions include Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis, TN (2013-2021). She helped establish the Tennessee Fieldwork Consortium and served as Chair from 2019-2021 to foster collaboration and support among fieldwork coordinators in the state. Internationally, she served as a clinical education developer and member of the Academic Advisory Committee for the first-ever bachelor’s degree level OT and PT program in Haiti offered by FSRL at the Episcopal University in Leogane, Haiti (2014-2020).

Community-based programming, population health, trauma-informed care, pediatrics, and behavioral health.

Research areas

Anti-human trafficking movement, capacity building, health equity, socially disadvantaged populations, and trauma-informed practice.
