FACILITIES AND STUDY SPACE

Students should report any facilities problems (leaky faucets, icy sidewalks, spilled liquids, full garbage, etc.) to Asset Essentials. Be aware there are deer, birds, and coyotes living in the surrounding area, they are our neighbors. 

Food Service and Dining Facilities 

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences offers limited food service and vending options. 

Garden 

The student garden has several raised beds which are tended by the Medicinal Plant Club. Join the PNWU Community Garden page on Engage to be notified of needs and harvest. 

Housing 

Students must secure their own housing throughout the duration of their education. PNWU partners with College Pads to provide PNWU students with a tool to help them become more educated renters, compare off-campus housing options, find potential roommates, and sublet their existing units, when applicable.

Lockers 

Lockers are available in each building on-campus. The use of lockers is highly encouraged to reduce student risk of theft. PNWU is not responsible for items which are left unattended.  

Lockers must be cleaned out at the end of spring term and students must return the key to Facilities. 

Recycling 

Recycling containers are available throughout campus for paper and plastic material. Used batteries can be turned in at the IT Help Desk. 

Study Space 

The SGA has worked with PNWU administration to designate specific study spaces on campus as the following:

  • group and individual study
  • quiet study
  • common area group and individual study
  • group study
  • reservable
  • non-reservable, but available for study when not in use

Each study space area has a designation near the door with the type of study allowed. PNWU Calendar system allows students the opportunity to plan their study location in advance, limit interruption by activities, and to ensure that all students have access to available study space resources. 

While a reservation is not required for use, student groups with 2 or more students, may reserve select designated rooms for up to 3-hour blocks per day. Reservations may be made between 48 hours to 3 hours in advance though PNWU Calendar. Please note that it is not a requirement to make a reservation to use a group room, however, students should check the PNWU Calendar and be aware of existing reservations, as students with reservations will take priority to open use. Only one room per group, per day, may be reserved. GROUPS (AND PARTICIPANTS THEREIN) MAY ONLY BOOK ONE ROOM, ONE TIME, PER DAY. This will allow more groups access to use the materials and spaces provided in the group study spaces.

**Tutors are exempt from the limitation if they are tutoring different groups of students. 

There is a 15-minute grace period to occupy reserved rooms. If the members who reserved the room do not show up within 15 minutes of the start of their reservation, then the room reverts to a first come first serve basis. In the event that Student Affairs or a course coordinator needs to utilize or reserve a room, they have the priority to do so, even if that room has already been reserved by students. The students shall work respectfully with Student Affairs or the course coordinator to find a different place to study.  

Generally, unreserved study space preference will be on a first come first serve basis. When a room is not reserved, it should be assumed to be “designated” for its specified study use, and students shall choose where to study accordingly. Cubicles and individual study spaces are meant to be utilized for individual study. Multiple groups can, and should, use the large Group Study rooms simultaneously (example BHH 107).  

If a student needs to temporarily leave a study space, they must place a piece of paper in plain sight or write on a whiteboard stating their name and intended time of return, which cannot exceed 30 minutes. If a student has not returned by the time stated or has failed to leave said information, other students wishing to use the study area may move the personal belongings and place them in a corner of the room to give to the student upon return.  

Students must clean up after themselves when they are finished with the study area, removing all materials that they have brought to the area. After a study area is left unattended, another student or student group may begin to utilize the area. All personal items in a study area must be removed and white boards erased at the end of each day’s use. Leaving materials overnight or for multiple days is not allowed and can result in referral to Student Affairs. Personal items and books may be placed in assigned lockers or shared bookcases; students may use assigned lockers or the first come first serve lockers in UCC with a personal padlock.  

The student assumes responsibility for any damage or theft of personal property left unattended in a study room, cubicle, or shared bookcase. Failure to respect the Study Space procedure in this regard will be subject to disciplinary action. 

Furniture and appliances in study spaces are property of PNWU and should not be moved or altered in any way. Please keep noise to a minimum. Dress code is observed in study space Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Campus study space is a privilege and can be revoked based on violations mentioned above. 

As professional students, students will self-moderate as a primary means of conflict management with reference to this procedure and in line with current professional standards at the University. Failures to respect the Study Space procedure or to respect other students will be subject to disciplinary action. Concerns regarding study space, or violations should be directed to Student Affairs. Ongoing procedure concerns will be brought to the SGA and Student Affairs for follow up and review.
