This year, the family medicine and simulation departments have worked to expand the simulation curriculum to include increased inpatient and outpatient simulated patient (SP) learning opportunities. This longitudinal curriculum throughout both the first and second years prepares the students for their clinical rotations as well as their third-year Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE).
Third-year OSCE examinations are now completed remotely by students. The remote success of this curriculum is in part because of what faculty have learned through their involvement with the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine’s web-based telehealth training program. All students at PNWU now complete this telehealth curriculum as a part of their first two years of training. In addition, our department continues collaboration with the department of osteopathic principles and practice on the cohesive delivery of physical exam skills.
