As snow flurries accumulated on the back lawn of Butler-Haney Hall, a single thought frosted the mind of PNWU Student Doctor Preston Baker: SNOWBALL FIGHT. When only four of his classmates arrived to the frigid battlefield, however, an alternate idea came to mind. A short while later, a wintry character sporting his own white coat emerged on our health sciences campus.
Taking advantage of a break between a behavioral health test and lectures, Baker, alongside fellow second-year students Fischer Summers, Ty Humbles and Sophia Jadzak, took to the tundra to build a snowman. The result stands as a challenge to others to make additional frosty friends for the frozen fellow.
“I made the head, Preston made the base, Ty made the middle, and Fischer was the support and supervisor,” laughed Student Doctor Sophia Jadzak, president of PNWU’s Family Medicine Interest Group, adding that her lack of gloves proved no challenge to shaping efforts, as her hands had already gone numb during the snowball fight.
“The culture here is so different from my undergrad, where it felt like everyone was just a passing face,” said Student Doctor Humbles, who credits Baker for launching the effort.
“I stayed after the others left to make the face, arms, and what was supposed to be a heart,” laughed Baker, adding that “snow sculpting is my best art form… which shows how poorly my artistic talent has been developed.”
“At PNWU, I feel like I have really gotten to know most of classmates,” explained Humbles. “I absolutely love that we are able to get together and do things like this.”
