PNWU Faculty and students made a remarkable contribution to the APTA Combined Section Meeting in San Diego, held in February 2023. Seven faculty members and three Class of 2025 DPT students participated in the event. The three students were Shelbi Ownings (Class President for the Class of 2025), Michaela Adams (APTA Liaison), and Vince Santos.
During the conference, each faculty member presented their research findings on various health topics. Drs. Trueblood and Salido shared their research on lateral step reactions in healthy older adults during static standing and walking. Dr. Callen presented a paper on prognostic variables in whiplash disorders, while Drs. Rebeca Segraves and Jenna Segraves highlighted disparities in maternal and infant health and maximizing function after major abdominal surgery. Finally, Dr. Kerfeld coauthored a presentation on dismantling ableism.
This was the first year of the launch of PNWU’s DPT program, and the university expressed its pride in the team’s outstanding representation at the national conference. PNWU is committed to fostering a learning and knowledge exchange culture to enhance healthcare quality and make significant contributions to the industry.
