On Friday, April 12, PNWU hosted our annual Residency Fair. With over 30 residency programs on campus to showcase their offerings, this year’s Fair was the largest in our University’s history.
Classes were paused as PNWU students met with residency program directors, faculty, and current residents from a variety of family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatric regional residency programs, discovering insights on topics like work/life balance, call schedules, and other residency experiences from attendees, including PNWU-COM Class of 2021 graduate Brittney Guiou, DO, who returned to her alma mater as a soon-to-be attending physician.
“It was so nice to see so many familiar faces,” said Dr. Guiou, who was representing the Family Medicine Residency Spokane. “I was blown away by how many former professors and faculty recognized me after almost five years away from campus. It reminded me why I chose to study medicine at PNWU.”
Designed to harness the immeasurable power of such networking opportunities, the annual Residency Fair can determine a student’s fate with a program, explained Michelle Chadek, director of GME.
“Personal connections matter, and programs remember our students,” said Chadek. “It wasn’t too long ago that we were happy if residencies even interviewed PNWU students. Now, programs are coming to us, asking for more PNWU applicants – a true testament to our reputation for excellence in education from our faculty and regional preceptors.”
In addition to a stellar turnout, this year’s Residency Fair also featured the inaugural PNWU Residency Fair Poster Session, which provided a platform for faculty and residents to showcase their scholarly activity and engage with colleagues.
Following the session, PNWU’s Graduate Medical Education office recognized the outstanding work of the following three poster winners:

“I’m honored to work with our students and the GME teams at PNWU and WWAMI Family Medicine Residency Network,” Chadek added. “When I’m walking down the hallway at a hospital and see a practicing PNWU Alum, I cannot be prouder of their career success and PNWU’s mission fulfillment.”
