Reconnect and Celebrate at the PNWU Welcome Back Event

The power of PNWU’s close-knit community is set to shine once again at the eagerly anticipated PNWU Welcome Back Event. Scheduled for Tuesday, September 10 from 4-6 p.m. on the back patio and playing field of Butler-Haney Hall, the gathering promises an unforgettable blend of fun, food, and fellowship.

Whether you’re a returning student, a new face on campus, or a long-serving faculty or staff member, the Welcome Back event offers a chance to embrace PNWU’s vibrant and wonderful community.

With any luck, one of Yakima’s famous “300 days of sunshine” will soak our campus’ back lawn in a warm September evening glow as the tantalizing aroma of tacos leads way to buzzing conversation, laughter, and a few yard games to burn off the ice cream dessert.

“This has become a yearly event,” explained Michon Mancell, Administrative Coordinator for PNWU’s School of Physical Therapy, who has been instrumental in bringing the gathering to life. “Participating in traditional events can enhance a sense of belonging and pride within the university. Attending the Welcome Back event creates a positive tone for the year and fosters a collaborative and inclusive campus environment.”

PNWU Assessment Manager Catherine McCulley has also been pivotal in shaping the opportunity to forge new friendships, strengthen existing ones, and build a supportive, inclusive campus culture. By helping to orchestrate spirited games of Jenga, cornhole, and kickball, as well as “Would You Rather” and “Where Are You From?” discussions, McCulley is building a lively, engaging atmosphere fit for everyone at PNWU.

“We hope this gives everyone a chance to have some fun and enjoy themselves,” said Mancell. “It gives the students an opportunity to see faculty and staff in a different light, fostering stronger and more personal connections, and gives everyone time to interact and get to know their peers better while building a sense of community and camaraderie.”
