NIHC Transitions to Full PNWU Department, Marking a New Phase for Interprofessional Practice & Education

We are thrilled to announce a major milestone in the evolution of the Northwest Interprofessional Health Collaborative (NIHC), formerly known as YVIPEC.

The NIHC is now officially a full PNWU department, reporting directly to the PNWU Provost. The strategic transition enhances the NIHC’s capacity to advance interprofessional education and collaborative practice.

“This change aims to enhance our access to resources and advance interprofessional education and collaborative practice through new and expanded partnerships,” explained Jennifer Garehime, Director of NIHC Operations, who shared her enthusiasm about this development. “We are committed to improving operational efficiency to better serve our community and partners.”

With the change, the NIHC welcomes Dr. Keith Monosky as the new Director of Interprofessional Practice and Education (IPE). Dr. Monosky brings a wealth of experience and rich perspective to the role.

As the NIHC begins a new chapter, program representatives bid a heartfelt farewell to Dr. Angela Stewart, WSU’s Associate Dean for Rural Health, who has been a pivotal force as Executive Director of the NIHC.

“Dr. Stewart’s visionary leadership has left an indelible mark on our collaborative initiatives,” said Dr. Keith Monosky. “We extend our deepest gratitude for her dedicated service.

Founded in 2014, the NIHC (formerly YVIPEC) has been at the forefront of fostering team-based care and improving community health. With a dedication to IPE and collaborative practice, the NIHC enables students from various programs to learn with, from and about each other, setting the stage for effective collaboration and improved health outcomes. These concepts extend into their clinical practices, ensuring that diverse health professionals work together to provide the highest quality care to our communities.

“The future of the NIHC is bright,” said Dr. Wayne Miller, PNWU Provost and acting President. “We are eager to showcase the powerful potential of our expanded department and new leadership team.”

“Our commitment to providing exceptional IPE opportunities to our health professions learners remains unwavering,” said Dr. Monosky. “The NIHC continues to be a beacon of innovation and collaboration, reflecting PNWU’s dedication to improving health outcomes through integrated, team-based approaches.”
