On Friday, March 21, PNWU celebrated Match Day 2025.
98.5% of our College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (COM’s) Class of 2025 who sought residency placements achieved them. Over 55% of those residencies are in primary care specialties, such as family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics – a direct reflection of our mission.
“Our match rate and placement locations demonstrate that PNWU prepares our students to excel academically and succeed professionally,” said PNWU Interim President Dr. Robbyn Wacker. “I couldn’t be prouder and happier for them.”
Match Day is a pivotal event in the journey of our soon-to-be-graduating doctors, where they learn where they will complete their residencies: a rigorous, hands-on training program in their chosen specialty. Residencies typically last between three to seven years, depending on the field, and take place in hospitals, clinics, or other healthcare settings.
At PNWU, Match Day is particularly meaningful, as it showcases the success of our mission-driven students. Historically, our graduates have matched into primary care specialties at high rates, often in rural and medically underserved areas. This reflects PNWU’s deep commitment to addressing healthcare shortages and improving access to quality care.
“I’m proud that over half of our Student Doctors have chosen the primary care specialties of family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics,” said Dean of PNWU-COM Thomas Scandalis, DO. “I’m equally proud that 45% will enter other specialties, including general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, and orthopedic surgery, which are also greatly needed in the communities we serve. It underscores that we provide a solid educational framework that supports graduates for any type of medical and surgical specialty or sub-specialty.”
Match Day serves as a reminder that PNWU students are not just matching into residencies — they are stepping into roles that will transform the lives of the patients and communities who need them most.
