Dr. Kathaleen Briggs Early Named PNWU’s Interim Vice President for Research

PNWU is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Kathaleen Briggs Early as Interim Vice President for Research. A founding faculty member and longtime professor of nutrition, Dr. Briggs Early brings a wealth of experience, deep institutional knowledge, and a nationally recognized research background to this new leadership role.

Her appointment follows thoughtful feedback from campus-wide listening sessions, candidate presentations, and the PNWU Research Committee. Colleagues praised Dr. Briggs Early’s collaborative leadership style, her commitment to mentorship and student-centered scholarship, and her vision for advancing research that serves rural and underserved communities.

Beyond PNWU, Dr. Briggs Early’s expertise is shaping national standards. As the only nutritionist on the American Diabetes Association’s 2025 Professional Practice Committee, she helped co-author critical updates to national diabetes care guidelines—highlighting the vital role of nutrition and behavior change in managing chronic conditions.

This dual role — local leader and national contributor — perfectly reflects Dr. Briggs Early’s commitment to building healthier communities through evidence-based, equitable care.
