Student Core Didactic IPE Session: Collaborative Clinical Case Conferences (C4s)

Emphasizing Teams & Teamwork for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice

The C4 activities offer students from diverse healthcare professions a unique opportunity to collaboratively learn about, with, and from each other through a shared experience. Tailored for second-year/advanced students, this activity encompasses essential elements such as conducting a thorough case review, prioritizing the problem list, and formulating an interprofessional care plan to address the needs of a complex patient. Each session is designed to empower student teams to actively engage with a simulated patient, gathering and incorporating additional information and involving the patient in shared decision-making.

The Community-based Clinical Case Conferences (C4s) are strategically designed to enrich the student experience by applying the core Interprofessional Education Collaborative’s (IPEC) competencies. These include communication, values & ethics, and roles & responsibilities, with a specific focus on cultivating effective teams and teamwork. Through these immersive activities, we aim to not only deepen students’ understanding of their respective roles within healthcare teams, but also foster a collaborative mindset that aligns with the core principles of interprofessional practice.
