Emphasizing Roles & Responsibilities for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice
In this Core IPE Curriculum session, students will enhance their comprehension of their professional role and responsibilities within a healthcare team. They will also broaden their knowledge and appreciation for the crucial roles played by other team members, including patients and their families or caregivers. Tailored for students in the early stages of their professional training, this session lays a foundational understanding that will evolve as they progress through the IPE curriculum.
The session is structured around two collaborative activities. The first involves a round-robin of introductions within small groups, where students share insights into their professions and their contributions to patient care within a collaborative setting. The second activity centers on a patient case study, specifically designed for early learners with limited clinical experience.
This session is strategically designed to enrich the student experience by applying the core Interprofessional Education Collaborative’s (IPEC) competencies. These include communication, teams & teamwork, and values & ethics, with a specific focus on roles & responsibilities. Through these immersive activities, we aim to not only deepen students’ understanding of their respective roles within healthcare teams, but also foster a collaborative mindset that aligns with the core principles of interprofessional practice.
