Dr. Aaron Anderson, an adjunct assistant professor of family medicine at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) and a dedicated internal medicine provider at the Toppenish Medical-Dental Clinic, has been appointed to chair the National Advisory Council for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC).
Dr. Anderson will serve in the role for the next two years, providing critical guidance to the Secretary of Health and Human Services on a range of pressing healthcare challenges facing community health centers across the country.
“I hope to use this opportunity to shape policies that will improve the care we provide to the patients we serve every day.”
“The challenges we face, such as declining access to maternal services, the opioid epidemic, and the retention of healthcare providers in underserved communities, are significant,” said Dr. Anderson, in a release issued by the Yakima Valley Farmer Workers Clinic. “I hope to use this opportunity to shape policies that will improve the care we provide to the patients we serve every day.”
Dr. Anderson’s journey with the NHSC began in 2009 when he joined the Toppenish Medical-Dental Clinic as a NHSC scholar. After fulfilling his four-year commitment, he has remained committed to serving the community for more than 16 years. Along the way, he has also served as a preceptor at PNWU, mentoring medical students during their clinical rotations in Toppenish.
“Dr. Anderson has an immense impact on students both in the preclinical and clinical years.”
